Quick Start

# 1. Clone the repo
git clone https://github.com/dhassell007/daily-briefing-skill.git
cd daily-briefing-skill

# 2. Install dependencies
pip3 install -r requirements.txt

# 3. Configure your Alpha Vantage API key
export ALPHA_VANTAGE_API_KEY=your_key_here

## Important: Proper cron setup for reliable delivery

The headlines script outputs `---SPLIT---` markers to indicate message boundaries. Your cron job must split on these markers and send each section separately.

**Example cron setup:**

  - Capture the FULL output
  - Split the output on '---SPLIT---' delimiters (these mark message boundaries)
  - Send EACH section as a SEPARATE message
  - There will be 3-4 sections total

CRITICAL: Do NOT add any commentary, explanations, or meta-text. Just forward the raw script output."

Why this matters:

• Headlines output is too long for a single Telegram message (4096 char limit)
• The script automatically splits at safe boundaries
• Your cron must respect the splits to avoid truncation
• Without proper splitting, you'll get incomplete briefings

Requirements

• Python 3.7+
• Dependencies: requests, pyyaml (see requirements.txt)
• Alpha Vantage API key (free tier: 5 calls/min, 500/day)
