terminal-animator
Turn terminal screenshots into polished short video animations (15-30s) where commands type themselves and responses appear instantly.
Choose how to use this skill
You do not need every option. Choose the path your AI client supports. The stable page stays the same; versioned files are immutable.
1. Native installer
This listing has no registered native installer command. Use the complete package or source fallback below, depending on what your client supports.
Do not guess an installer command or replace an existing version without reviewing the diff.
2. Complete package recommended
Download the ZIP when available. It includes SKILL.md plus the references, security notes and version metadata.
No complete ProSkills package is published for this listing yet.3. Prompt-only
Copy the prompt above when the agent can read the stable page or when you want to adopt the workflow without installing a skill.
Need only the instruction file?
Download SKILL.md only if your client requires a single file. The complete ZIP is safer for a full installation because it preserves the references and release context.
No path installs or executes anything by itself. Your agent still needs access to the project files. Before updating, compare the installed version and review the diff.

🎬 Terminal Animator
An OpenClaw skill that turns terminal screenshots into polished short video animations. Commands type themselves, responses appear instantly, ASCII art renders pixel-perfect.
What it does
Send your OpenClaw agent a terminal screenshot and ask it to "animate this" or "turn this into a video." The agent will:
- OCR the screenshot to extract terminal text
- Parse into command/response blocks
- Generate a timed subtitle file (ASS) with typing animations
- Render ASCII art as pixel-perfect PNG overlays (bypasses subtitle font issues)
- Produce an MP4/GIF video with ffmpeg
The result is a clean 15-30 second clip where commands type character-by-character and responses appear instantly, perfect for demos, social media, or documentation.
Install
As an OpenClaw Skill
# Copy to your OpenClaw skills directory
cp -r terminal-animator-skill ~/.openclaw/skills/terminal-animator
# Install Node.js dependencies
cd ~/.openclaw/skills/terminal-animator
bash scripts/setup-deps.sh
Manual Dependencies
- Node.js 18+
- ffmpeg (with libass support for subtitles)
canvasnpm package:npm install canvas- DejaVu Sans Mono font (most Linux distros have it)
Usage
With OpenClaw
Send your agent a terminal screenshot:
"Animate this terminal screenshot into a short demo video"
Or paste terminal text:
"Turn this into an animation:
$ curl api.example.com/status {"status": "ok", "uptime": "99.99%"} $ echo "done" done ```"
Standalone (Art Overlay Tool)
Generate a pixel-perfect ASCII art PNG for use in videos:
node scripts/make-art-overlay.mjs \
--file my-ascii-art.txt \
--bg "rgb(39,44,51)" \
--fg "#FFFFFF" \
--font-size 32 \
--output art.png
How it works
Why not just use VHS/asciinema?
VHS is great when you can script commands. But when you're starting from a screenshot of an existing terminal session, you need a different pipeline:
- Extract text from the image
- Reconstruct the command/response structure
- Re-render with controlled timing
The ASCII art problem
Unicode box-drawing characters (██╗║═╚╝) used in figlet/toilet-style logos don't render correctly in ASS subtitles because libass doesn't maintain consistent monospace character widths for these glyphs. The letters come out garbled.
Solution: Render ASCII art blocks separately using node-canvas (which handles monospace correctly), then overlay the resulting PNG on the video with ffmpeg's overlay filter. The background color is matched exactly to eliminate visible seams.

Configuration
Timing
| Parameter | Default | Description |
|---|---|---|
| Typing speed | 35ms/char | How fast commands type |
| Response delay | 150ms | Pause before response appears |
| Line delay | 30ms | Stagger between response lines |
| Command pause | 500ms | Gap between command blocks |
| Initial delay | 400ms | Pause before first command |
| Final pause | 2500ms | Hold on last frame |
Colors
Colors are set per-project to match the source terminal theme. Common setups:
| Element | Dark terminal | Catppuccin Mocha |

| Background | #292C35 | #1E1E2E |
| User input | #FFFFFF | #CDD6F4 |
